Il sogno americano… l’ Italia e… il cinema!
Quanti Italiani hanno vissuto il grande sogno americano e quanti ancora lo inseguono!
Con sogno americano ci si riferisce alla speranza che attraverso il duro lavoro, il coraggio, la determinazione sia possibile raggiungere un migliore tenore di vita e la prosperità economica.
L’origine del Sogno Americano proviene dall’allontanamento dai modelli del Vecchio Mondo per governo ed economia. Questo permise libertà mai sperimentata prima. In aggiunta, dopo la Guerra di indipendenza americana, molte delle risorse dell’America erano libere e generarono promesse di proprietà terriere e investimenti fortunati in terre o industrie. Lo sviluppo della Rivoluzione Industriale creò la possibilità di migliorare la propria condizione sociale.
Molti dei primi imprenditori Americani si diressero a ovest, dove potevano comprare a bassissimo prezzo molti acri di terreno, nella speranza di trovarvi dei giacimenti d’oro. Il Sogno Americano fu un fattore primario non solo per la “Corsa all’Oro” di metà ottocento, ma anche nelle successive ondate di immigrazione che caratterizzarono quel secolo e il successivo.
In Europa, le crisi e le conseguenze del regime Napoleonico spinsero molti dei più poveri europei ad andare in America, per poter rimediare al loro basso tenore di vita e godere delle ampie libertà economiche e costituzionali offerte dall’America.
A metà del XIX secolo arrivò negli Stati Uniti un numero considerevole di emigranti, tutti alla ricerca del Sogno Americano.
Con l’avvicinarsi del XX secolo, le grandi personalità dell’industria divennero le nuove icone del Sogno Americano, dato che molti di loro erano arrivati a controllare grandi industrie e immensi capitali pur provenendo da bassissime condizioni sociali. L’acquisizione di un notevole benessere dimostrava che, avendo talento, intelligenza e costanza di lavorare duramente, era possibile avere successo nella vita.
Per tutto il diciannovesimo secolo, gli emigranti fuggirono dalle monarchie dell’Europa Occidentale, che opprimevano la classe povera e soffocavano lo sviluppo, mentre l’ economia americana era costruita da persone che erano consapevolmente libere da tali costrizioni.
Chi arrivava nel Nuovo Mondo portava con sé anche la speranza dell’uguaglianza. In quello che è forse il suo discorso più famoso, Martin Luther King nomina il Sogno Americano:
«Vi dico oggi, fratelli miei, non perdiamoci nella valle della disperazione. E anche se affrontiamo le difficoltà di oggi e di domani, io ho ancora un sogno. È un sogno profondamente radicato nel Sogno Americano.»
Il grande sogno americano, insomma, vive tutt’oggi nell’immaginario collettivo, valorizzando l’immagine del self made man, con il duro lavoro e la perseveranza i risultati ed il successo sono garantiti.
Cosa sia diventato il Sogno Americano, è una questione continuamente discussa; alcuni ritengono che abbia portato ad enfatizzare esclusivamente il benessere materiale come misura del successo e/o della felicità. Per i critici esso ignora altri fattori di successo:
- la fortuna;
- la famiglia;
- lo stato di benessere in cui una persona è nata;
- i fattori comportamentali, come la tendenza di una persona ad essere più o meno estroversa.
I critici ritengono inoltre che, come dice il vecchio adagio “Il denaro non dà la felicità”, accumulare grandi ricchezze non dovrebbe essere il sogno di tutti.
Eppure, ecco come “The Great Gatsby” impersonifica questo ideale.
La trama è strutturata come un lungo flash back che si svolge nello studio di uno psicologo che invita il nostro narratore a raccontare i fatti attraverso la scrittura. È così che Nick Carraway realizza il suo sogno: diventare un romanziere. Il suo desiderio l’avevo spinto a lasciare il Middle West per New York, dove viene letteralmente folgorato dai colori, dallo sfarzo, dalle feste e dai fiumi di alcool, una realtà a lui estranea. In questa apparente dimensione onirica esiste un solo vero protagonista: il signor Gatsby. Leggendario, intorno a lui si mescolano storie, aneddoti platealmente incredibili eppure puntualmente confermati. Un uomo influente che necessita dell’aiuto di un ex scrittore squattrinato, che ora si da al mercato borsistico, per un thè pretestuoso. Lui deve rivedere Daisy, la cugina di Nick, sposata con un grosso ereditiero dai costumi disinvolti.
Si mescolano temi, la solitudine di un mondo patinato in cui nessuno comunica, il tempo, la volontà di fermarlo e di ripeterlo, l’esigenza di pianificare ogni cosa, l’ossessione del miglioramento di sé perché “la vita deve mirare in alto, deve andare avanti”. E allora Gatsby chiederà il gesto eclatante.
In conclusione, l’unico monito a riguardo è di non arrendersi davanti ai sogni…rimbocchiamoci le maniche e rendiamo migliore e felice la nostra vita! Non perdiamoci davanti alle illusioni, ma se crediamo che il nostro sogno possa sconvolgere in meglio la nostra vita, allora proviamoci e se non oggi, domani ci riusciremo!
La conoscenza ci spalanca le porte e noi entreremo nelle nostre vite come gli eroi del nostro destino!

The American Dream refers to the hope that through hard work, courage, determination we can achieve a better standard of living and economic prosperity.
The origin of the American Dream comes from the models with the dismissal of the Old World for the government and economy. This allowed freedom, never before experienced. In addition, after the American Revolutionary War, many of the resources of America were free, and it generated promises of land ownership and lucky investments in land or industries. The development of the Industrial Revolution created the opportunity to improve their social status.
Many of the early American entrepreneurs made their way to the west, where they could buy a very low price many acres of land, hoping to find the gold deposits. The American Dream was a primary factor, not only for the “Gold Rush”, but also in the subsequent waves of immigration that characterized this century and the next.
In Europe, the crisis and the consequences of the Napoleonic regime drove many of the poorest in Europe to go to America, in order to remedy their low standard of living and enjoy the ample economic and constitutional freedoms offered from America.
In the middle of the nineteenth century came to the United States a considerable number of emigrants, in search of the American Dream.
With the approach of the twentieth century, the great personalities of the industry became the new icons of the American Dream, since many of them had come to control large industries and huge capital despite coming from very low social conditions. The acquisition of a significant welfare showed that having talent, intelligence and perseverance to work hard, it was possible to succeed in life.
Throughout the nineteenth century, the emigrants fled from the monarchies of Western Europe, which oppressed the poor class and stifled development, while the American economy was built by people who were consciously free from such constraints.
Who arrived in the New World also brought with it the hope of equality. In what is perhaps his most famous speech, Martin Luther King appoints the American Dream:
« Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends. And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in theAmerican Dream. »
The great American dream lives now in the collective imagination, enhancing the image of the self-made man, with hard work and perseverance the results and success is guaranteed.
What has become the American Dream, is a question constantly discussed, and some believe that it has brought to emphasize only the material well-being as a measure of success and / or happiness. It ignores other critical success factors:
fortune;
the family;
the state of being in which a person is born;
behavioral factors, such as the tendency of a person to be more or less extroverted, and so forth.
Critics also believe that, as the old adage goes, “Money does not bring happiness”, to amass great wealth should not be the dream of everyone.
But, here’s how “The Great Gatsby” embodies this ideal.
The plot is structured as an extended flashback that takes place in the office of a psychologist who invites our narrator to tell the story through writing. It is thus that Nick Carraway realizes his dream of becoming a novelist. His wish had prompted him to leave the Midwest for New York, where he was literally struck by the colors, the glitz, parties and rivers of alcohol, a reality alien to him. In this seeming dreamlike dimension there is only one true protagonist: Mr. Gatsby. Around him there are mixed stories, anecdotes blatantly unbelievable yet confirmed promptly. An influential man who needs the help of a former penniless writer, for a cup of tea. He must review Daisy’s cousin Nick, who is married with a big heir costumes casual.
There are many themes, the loneliness of a glossy world where no one communicates, the time, the will to stop it and to repeat, the need to plan everything, the obsession with self-improvement because “life is to aim high, must go on. “So Gatsby ask the striking gesture.
In conclusion, the only thing that this post can suggest is for you not to succumb to the dreams … roll up our sleeves and we do our best in order to make happy our life! Let’s not lose in front of illusions, but if we believe that our dream can improve in better our lives, then let’s try it and if not today, tomorrow we will succeed!
