Tour in the Apulian countryside

Italiahomestay ha organizzato un tour nella campagna pugliese per far godere i suoi studenti del corso di lingua e cultura italiana del meraviglioso panorama tipico campestre.

A pochi km da Villa Castelli, subito si inizia a intravedere una grande varietà di verde che conquista gli occhi di tutti, con tutte le sue sfumature e forme.

Alberi di quercia, di ulivo, di mandorlo, di melo, di fico…cespugli di more…e qualche trullo sparso qua e là.

Una vista strabiliante e altrettanto rilassante.

Ci soffermiamo davanti a un ulivo secolare e una studentessa commenta: “Questo albero ha tante cose da raccontare”.

“È vero, la natura qui è piena di storia”…

e continuiamo il nostro cammino.

Più avanti incontriamo un uomo che lavora per la raccolta delle mandorle…e perché no, due del gruppo si unisco a lui per vivere questa esperienza unica.

Camminando, arriviamo in una pineta e qui lo stupore li assale…pini e aria fresca e pura ci aspettano. Proseguiamo per il percorso segnalato e siamo sicuri che questa è stata la giornata giusta per amare la Puglia e le sue campagne.

Italiahomestay organized a tour in the Apulian countryside to let its students of the Italian language and culture enjoy the beautiful typical landscape of the country. 

A few miles from Villa Castelli, you get to see a wide variety of green that conquests the sight of everyone with all its shades and shapes.
Oak, olive, almond, apple, fig treea … blackberry bushes … and some trullo here and there.
A breathtaking and relaxing view .

We stop in front of an ancient olive tree and a student commented: “This tree has so many things to tell.”

“It’s true, the nature here is full of history” … and continue our journey.

Later we meet a man who works for the collection of almonds … and why not, two in the group join him to live this unique experience.

Walking, we arrive here in a pine forest and the wonder assails them … pines and pure and fresh air are waiting for us .

We continue along the marked route and we are sure that this was a good day to love Apulia and its cauntryside.

Acquasale, the typical summer recipe of Apulia

La lezione di cucina di Italiahomestay è stata un successo!

Con i suoi studenti, Italiahomestay ha preparato la tipica ricetta estiva della Puglia: l’ Acquasale, anche detta Acquasala.

Il tipico piatto dei poveri del passato, che veniva consumato da pescatori e contadini come pietanza unico proprio perché sostanzioso e pieno di un sapore strabiliante, viene servito freddo con ingredienti freschi e genuini.

Non ha quantità precise e ogni ingrediente può essere inserito a vostro piacimento.

Oggi il piatto viene servito non solo come piatto unico, ma anche come contorno e con i suoi colori non può che rappresentare la Puglia e l’estate.

Ecco gli ingredienti tipici di questa ricetta:

• pane raffermo (o anche frise)
• pomodori freschi a pezzettini
• cocomeri a pezzettini
• origano
• aglio
• cipolla
• sedano
• peperoni verdi
• un filo d’olio extravergine d’oliva
• sale q.b.
• acqua q.b. per ammorbidire leggermente il pane raffermo o le frise

* Italiahomestay ha provato ad aggiungere anche pezzettini di pesca gialla, il risultato è stato fenomenale!

Il procedimento è semplice: spezzettare e mischiare tutti gli ingredienti in una coppa, bagnare il tutto con l’acqua e dopo un paio di minuti necessari per l’ammollo, non vi resta altro che gustare questa prelibatezza!

The cooking class Italiahomestay was a success!

With its students of the Italian language and culture course, Italiahomestay prepared the typical summer recipe of Apulia: the Acquasale, also called Acquasala.

The typical dish of the poor of the past, which was consumed by fishermen and farmers as a main dish because it hearty and full of amazing flavor, is served cold with fresh ingredients.

It has no precise amounts of each ingredient can be added to your liking.

Today the dish is served not only as a main dish, but also as a side dish and with its colors can wonderfully represent Apulia and summer.

Here are the typical ingredients of this recipe:

• stale bread (or frise)
• fresh tomatoes into small pieces
• cucumbers into small pieces
• oregano
• garlic
• onion
• celery
• green peppers
• a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil
• salt
• water to soften slightly stale bread or frise

* Italiahomestay tried to add bits of yellow peach, the result was phenomenal!

The process is simple: chop and mix all the ingredients in a bowl, sprinkle everything with water and after a couple of minutes required for the soak, there is nothing left to enjoy this delicacy!

A surprise for Italiahomestay

E’ vero quando si dice che le cose belle accadono all’improvviso e oggi è proprio una giornata di questo tipo.
Rientro in casa dopo aver fatto alcune compere e come è tipico in Puglia, la porta di casa si lascia aperta.
Vedo la postina (per altro amica di famiglia) che urla nelle scale: “è per Maria, buona giornata”. Ma io sono sui gradini d’ingresso dietro di lei e salutandola, le chiedo: “scusa, cos’è?” e lei mi indica un bel pacco bianco e continua il suo giro.
Che strano, eppure non aspettavo niente. Prendo il pacco, ma la calligrafia del mio indirizzo non mi dice niente, allora lo giro e vedo subito il mittente da Helsinki!
I miei occhi si illuminano di gioia: sono Petri e Anu, due studenti finlandesi che hanno usufruito dell’alloggio, del corso di lingua italiana e delle visite guidate di Italiahomestay.
Non ci posso credere, salgo a casa e apro il pacco perché non vedo l’ora di vedere cosa c’è dentro! Liquirizie??? Caramelle??? Il pane dei pescatori??? Tutti i souvenir che ci avevano portato dalla Finlandia al loro arrivo e che per il gusto strepitoso sono finiti in un batter d’occhio!
C’è una cartella grigia con un bel fiocco nero e quando lo apro i miei occhi stentano a far scendere qualche lacrima: é una vignetta per Italiahomestay!!! Siamo noi!!! Non ci posso credere!!! E la dedica è davvero emozionante!
Subito scrivo un messaggio su Facebook, perché è proprio grazie ai social network che le distanze possono essere abbattute ed essere in contatto con chi ti sta davvero a cuore…e loro inevitabilemente fanno parte di queste persone! Sono nostri amici!!!
Allora, penso che il bello di insegnare è proprio questo: il sapere si trasmette col cuore, perché ogni persona farà parte della tua vita e tu della loro!
Si diventa amici e i piccoli gesti ti fanno capire che hai lasciato un segno nel cuore di qualcun altro!

It ‘s true when they say that good things happen suddenly and today is a kind of this day.
I am coming back home after doing some shopping and as it is typical in Apulia, the door has been left open.
I see the postwoman (a family friend) who screams in the stairs, “it’ s for Maria, bye!” But I am on the front steps behind her and greeting her, I ask her: “sorry, what is it?” And she shows me a nice white package and continues her work.
So strange, and I am not expecting anything. I take the package, but the handwriting of my address does not say anything to me yet, then I turn around and immediately see the sender from Helsinki!
My eyes light up with joy: it is Petri and Anu!!! Two Finnish students who had the Italian language course and guided tours with Italiahomestay!!!
I can not believe, I get home and open the package because I can not wait to see what’s inside! Liquorice??? Candies??? The fishermen bread??? All the souvenirs that we had brought from Finland when they arrive and that for the sake resounding ended up in a jiffy!
There is a gray folder with a pretty black bow and when I open my eyes struggle to bring down tears: it’s a cartoon for Italiahomestay!!! We are!!! I can not believe!!! And the dedication is really exciting!!!
I write a message on Facebook, because it is thanks to social networks that the distances can be pulled down and be in touch with who you really care … and they inevitably are part of these people! They are our friends!!!
So, I think the great thing about teaching is this: knowledge is transmitted from the heart, because each person will be part of your life and you of theirs!
You become friends and small gestures make you realize that you have left a mark on the heart of someone else!
