Maria is an excellent teacher with a lot of patience to explain things over and over again. Arrivati a luglio per frequentare un corso di lingua e cultura italiana presso la scuola ITALIAHOMESTAY, hanno vissuto con noi la vera e autentica vita di una famiglia italiana, per di più pugliese.

Alloggiando al trullo hanno potuto non solo godere di un panorama mozzafiato, ma anche far esperienza delle nostre tradizioni. Molto motivati e partecipi durante le ore di lezione del corso di lingua e cultura italiana di livello intermedio, hanno subito mostrato grande interesse e partecipazione. Indimenticabile la lezione sulla danza tradizionale: la tarantella, seguita da una serata danzate all’aperto in un ristorante tipico.

I nostri cari amici hanno anche partecipato ad altre attività, come il tour del vino con altri studenti americani, il festival delle polpette e altri tour in paesi limitrofi per scoprire le bellezze della Puglia.

Arrived in July to attend a course of Italian language and culture at the  ITALIAHOMESTAY school, lived with us the true and authentic life of an Italian family, the Apulia family.

Staying at the trullo, they have been able not only to enjoy a breathtaking view, but also to experience our traditions. Highly motivated and involved during class time for the course of Italian language and culture of the intermediate level, they immediately showed great interest and participation. Unforgettable was the lesson about the Apulian traditional dance: the tarantella, followed by an  dance outdoors evening in a typical restaurant.

Our dear friends participated also in other activities, such as wine tour with other American students, the festival of meatballs and other tours in neighboring countries to discover the beauty of Puglia.

What was really fascinating was how they were perfectly integrated in such a short time not only with the family of ITALIAHOMESTAY, but also with the surrounding environment. The practice of the Italian language was the perfect motive to explore stories and traditions, customs and curiosity (do not forget that Petri is now a fan of the football team followed so eagerly by the family ITALIAHOMESTAY, so much to buy a football shirt and continue to follow  football news).

Tour guide in Francavilla Fontana during its patronal feast

La scuola di lingua e cultura italiana vi racconta la serata alla festa patronale di Francavilla Fontana con la classe del corso di lingua italiana.

Come ogni tradizione che si rispetti, qui in Puglia le feste patronali sono un must!

La religione, la tradizione e la vita mondana si incontrano con un risultato ogni volta unico e irripetibile.

Già nel passato si era stabilito il Santo protettore di ogni paese, così dal giorno assegnato si dà il via a tre giorni di festa: il primo è di carattere commerciale con la tipica fiera dove si espongono tutte le ultime novità del campo dell’abbilgiamento, della casa, del cibo e così via; il secondo è il giorno religioso dedicato al Santo, con messe e processioni; il terzo giorno è il giorno tanto atteso dai più giovani: giochi e musica (generalmente si invita un cantante famoso) e sano divertimento.

A Francavilla Fontana, a pochi km da Villa Castelli, dal 13 al 15 settembre, si celebra la Madonna della Fontana. Questo è il motivo per cui a Villa Castelli, dal primo al 3 ottobre, si festeggia il cuore di Gesù e la Madonna; proprio perché nel passato Villa Castelli apparteneva a Francavilla Fontana, in quanto rappresentava la parte contadina della città da sempre dedita al commercio.

Attraversando il centro storico, ci addentriamo nelle viuzze caratteristiche, notando anche degli affreschi dedicati proprio alla Madonna della Fontana.

Arriviamo subito alla Cattedrale, non c’è nessun problema di indicazione, basta seguire la folla e si arriva d’avanti a questo spettacolo!

Una volta entrati nella Cattedrale, la classe si rende subito conto di quello che per noi significa addobbare la Chiesa per il Santo patrono della città: colore rosso e fiori generalmente sono le decorazioni intorno all’ altare e alla statua. Il simbolo della fede della comunità è proprio rappresentato da quanto “lusso” vi è in questi giorni in Chiesa, non trascurando la folla di fedeli che pregano e donano offerte e si prestano a portare sulla spalla la statua del Santo durante le processioni.

Dopo questa sosta, ci addentriamo nella vita mondana della città. Come punto di riferimento prendiamo una fontana molta elegante e da qui parte la nostra escursione.

Seguiamo le vie delle delizie e dei prodotti tipici, soffermandoci anche davanti alla lavorazione artigianale della “cupeta”, ovvero mandorle e caramello sottoforma di una barra che è ottima per uno snack favolosamente gustoso, nonché prodotto tipico locale. Anche ricci (nocciole e zucchero), frutta secca e caramelle gommose non possono mancare.

Passiamo anche davanti a vetrine di formaggi e vini prelibati, fermarci a degustare qualcosa è d’obbligo!!!

Infine, raggiungiamo una galleria di luci! Si aspetta la festa patronale anche per questo! Ogni anno una fantasia diversa e quest’anno si è voluto addirittura rappresentare la cupola della cattedrale. Uno spettacolo di luci colorate che colora tutta la strada principale del corso, un effetto strabiliante ed eccezionale! Un effetto giorno che fa rimanere tutti con il naso all’ insù e la bocca aperta!

In Francavilla Fontana, just a few miles from Villa Castelli, from September 13 to 15, the Lady of the Fountain is celebrated. This is the reason why Villa Castelli, from October 1 to 3, celebrates the heart of Jesus and the Virgin Mary; because in the past Villa Castelli belonged to Francavilla Fontana, as it represented the country in the city has always been devoted to trade.

Walking through the historic center, we enter in atmospheric alleyways, noting also the frescoes dedicated just to the Lady of the Fountain.

We arrive immediately to the Cathedral, there is no problem for the directions, just follow the crowd and get ahead of this show!

After this stop, we enter into the social life of the city. As a reference point we take a lot of elegant fountain and from here our hike.

We follow the ways of the delights and typical products, even pausing in front of the craftsmanship of “cupeta”, that is almond and caramel in the form of a bar that is great for a  fabulously tasty snack, as well as local product. Even “ricci” (hazelnuts and sugar), nuts and marshmallows can not miss.

We also pass in front of the windows of cheeses and fine wines, stopping to taste something is obvious!!!

Finally, we reach a tunnel of lights! We expect the patronal feast also for this! Each year a different fantasy and this year they wanted to represent the dome of the cathedral. A show of colored lights that colors the entire main street of the path, an astonishing and outstanding effect! An effect that makes us stay with nose up and mouth open!

Panzerotto yummy yummy!

Italiahomestay non poteva non organizzare una lezione di cucina sulla delizia della cucina pugliese: il panzerotto fritto!!!

Per Italiahomestay la lezione di cucina sul panzerotto è un must!

Oltre a presentare una delle buonissime tradizioni culinarie della Puglia, questa lezione di cucina pugliese è il modo migliore per ritrovarsi tutti intorno al tavolo come la vera famiglia pugliese per gustare questa delizia.

Giusto per un aperitivo o per un vero e proprio pasto, le tipologie sono varie, ma la lezione di cucina di Italiahomestay ha preparato le due tipologie più diffuse:

• classico: farcito con pomodoro e mozzarella
• rustico: farcito con mozzarella di bufala, salame e pepe

In ogni caso i condimenti possono anche essere personalizzati a seconda dei gusti, aggiungendo per esempio prosciutto, mortadella, ricotta forte, rape e chi più ne ha più ne metta!

Ecco a voi la ricetta!

Ingredienti:

Impasto:

1 kg di farina 00

1 cubetto di lievito

1 cucchiaio di sale fino

15 cl di olio

acqua tiepida q.b.

Farcitura per il panzerotto classico:

mozzarella

salsa di pomodoro

Farcitura per il panzerotto rustico:

mozzarella di bufala

salame dolce

pepe

Preparazione:

preparare l’impasto e dopo aver formato delle palle, lasciar riposare per circa un quarto d’ora al caldo, anche sotto una coperta o una tovaglia.

Dopo stendere l’impasto a forma di dischetti sotti e farcire a seconda del gusto, richiudere l’impasto e fissare i bordi con una forchetta e friggere in olio bollente.

Ecco il risultato!!!

Una vera delizia da mangiare caldo, con il ripieno filante e fumante!!!

Tour in Lecce

L’estate di Italiahomestay si è conclusa con un tour nella città barocca per eccellenza, la Firenze del Sud: Lecce.

Il corso estivo di lingua e cultura italiana si è appena concluso e il gruppo ha deciso di salutare la Puglia ammirando l’arte barocca e le meravigliosa spiagge salentine.

Lecce vanta una storia antichissima che risale all’ età messapica, quando già presentava i resti del Porto Adrianeo, l’Anfiteatro ed il Teatro.

Nonostante non si abbiano notizie sull’ età medievale, la sua rinascita risale all’epoca del Normanni, i quali donarono alla Città numerose opere d’arte come la Cattedrale.

Nel XV secolo, grazie agli Angioini, Lecce diventa la sede di pittori, scultori, orafi che impreziosirono la città. Successivamente subentrarono gli Aragonesi e con essi iniziarono anche i periodi tristi caratterizzati da epidemie, eccidi e devastazioni.

L’importanza di Lecce si manifestò nuovamente nel ‘500 tanto che Carlo V la proclamò capoluogo della Puglia.

Dalla fine del ‘500 agli inizi del ‘700 inizia l’epoca del Barocco nata grazie all’opera di scalpellini che merlettavano, attorcigliavano, ornavano la tipica pietra locale caratterizzata da una particolare malleabilità.

Da allora il Salento, con il suo stile Barocco, iniziò a folgorare grazie al carattere originale ed autonomo e al ritrovarsi di connotati contadini e religiosi, con l’esaltazione delle sensazioni e della fede.

Le spiagge salentine sono un altro immenso tesoro, con una vasta scelta di spiagge e di paesaggi caratteristici. Italiahomestay ha visitato Torre dell’ Orso e Torre Sant’ Andrea, caratterizzate da faraglioni che emergono dall’ acqua cristallina. L’erosione del mare ha creato qualcosa di magico.
